Le monde est petit

I like coincidences but this one is pretty funny. A week ago, a new chinese postdoc came to work in our unit and yesterday, she was supposed to meet our social advisor somewhere around the agency to visit an appartment. She didn't know where to go and forgot to ask me before I went to the cafeteria for my morning coffee. I order my coffee, sit, and my phone rings. My mother was calling me, saying that she is together with someone I work with. I thought, Man I didn't send anyone to my mother's home. (she works from home). And she said : No, no, no, I am at Casino with a person from your work. She gave the phone to that person who ended up being our new chinese postdoc. Looks like she got lost after getting out of the agency and asked the first person she met in the street who happened to be my mother... The world is small :)

Get your christmas presents ready !

My opinion on Christmas presents :

1) LISTEN to people all year long to find something that they'd like
2) Don't give them something you like, tastes differ
3) Don't use too much money, except if you think the person would really LOVE something expensive. Home maid stuff is even better than anything else.
4) Buy (or make) something cheap but not closet crap. Understand things that will end up in a closet until the person has the courage to throw it away. Get something useful or at least something that you're sure the person will like. Don't take the risk to fill their closets in.
5) Avoid clothes as size matters (yeah yeah I'm sure it does)
6) If you can't find anything, just give a card with a nice sentence from your heart instead of buying any crap recommended by Amazon or other "real" stores.
You can't go wrong with these advices, now if you can use these advices, it means you didn't buy your christmas presents yet so.. GO SHOPPING, it is bloody next week !!!

December 8th in Lyon

After several years being lazy, I finally decided to go out last night for the "Fete des Lumieres" in Lyon. After work, I went back home to put the candles on my balcony, then I left to Bellecour. I met Charles and Rhian in front of St Jean Cathedral and we walked up the hill with thousands of people. We ended up near Fourviere and then went down through the gardens. We then went to place Sathonay where Uzma's band was playing. There we met Ghislaine, Salvo, Mazda, Sarah, etc... and had a few beers while the band was playing around the area. They were pretty cool. I think there was less light shows than the previous years but fourviere hill was very cool. There was too many people there and nobody who spoke french ! (as usual). We couldn't even go on Place des Terreaux because of the crowd, juste like when Lyon won the championship. I had to walk back home because of the crowd too. 7 people on a row, 20 meters queue to enter the station. And I am not talking about the inside of the station.... so I walked in the rain. Was nice though :)
